As in September 2009 we were, along with some majority of the Directors, the promoters of the first municipal registry of living wills in the province of Reggio Emilia , we feel obliged to intervene on the circular signed yesterday by Maroni, Fazio and Sacconi.
Ministers of the Interior, Welfare and Health may sign all round they want, but these acts have the same legal consistency of toilet paper. We would like to be remembered that the ministers today, in the absence of a national law on living wills, cases on the end of life were only discussed and decided by the courts. And it is based on case law concerning the dramatic case of Eluana that many local authorities across Italy have established the municipal registers of wills biological , finally allowing thousands of citizens to express and enforce their own choices in relation to their lives.
Maroni, Fazio and Sacconi instead of producing useless acts like yesterday, could commit a bit 'more to convince their MPs to legislate on this issue, in this way would avoid yet another international embarrassment to Italy, that is to be one of the last countries in Europe not to have one in their national law on living wills.
Unfortunately propaganda and genuflection towards the Vatican there is no end: after the increase in public funding for Catholic schools decided in recent days, we hope that the circular yesterday is really the last pledge paid by this government against the Vatican hierarchy.
